Create The Right Business Habits For Longevity

Achieving additional levels of excellence in certain areas of your business does not require you to have more discipline. You already have it. Without discipline you could not function or get through a day. It takes discipline to wake up, go to work and run your business. The strategy to achieving your business goals and taking your business to the next level is creating the right habits when it comes to things like business development, product development, lead generation, brand management and revenue solutions.

A habit is an effect of repeated acts and an aptitude to reproduce them. You either have a habit of making five sales calls a day or not. You either have a habit of following up immediately with a client request or not. It is all about habits.

Two things about creating new habits: 1) It takes 21 to 30 days, and 2) You can only change one habit at a time.

The most important behavior you need to make your new habit a reality is persistence. Start slow, get some wins and gain momentum. If you miss a day or two do not give up. Start again the next day.

Implementation Strategy

1) Make a list of 12 habits (one per month) you want to create in 2008

2) Rank them in order of importance and start with Habit 1 on the 1st of the month

3) Take four Post-It notes and write down your new habit (example: "Make five sales." Or "Call two customers")

4) Stick the notes on your bathroom mirror, car, laptop and wallet

5) Do it now and do it every day for 30 days.
